Resuscitation (routine)
Adult (NICE) - 500ml crystalloid over <15 minutes Child (NICE) - 10ml/kg crystalloid over <10 minutes Term Neonates (NICE) - 10-20ml/kg crystalloid over <10 minutes
Fluid resusitation should be given as rapidly as possible through a cannula of adequate bore
Time of passive infusion = flow(max)/volume
Venous access for fluid resuscitation should be with the largest bore practical.
Maintenance
Adult (NICE): 25-30ml/kg(lean body weight)/day
Child (NICE): 100:50:20ml/kg/day
Child: 4:2:1ml/kg/hr
Neonates (NICE):
From birth to day 1: 50 to 60 ml/kg/day.
Day 2: 70 to 80 ml/kg/day.
Day 3: 80 to 100 ml/kg/day.
Day 4: 100 to 120 ml/kg/day.
Days 5 to 28: 120 to 150 ml/kg/day.
NICE suggests the maximum volume for routine maintenance should not exceed 2500mL.
