Lung aeration > drop in pulmonary pressure > foramen ovale closure
The ductus arteriosis is maintained by PGE2. At birth a drop in PGE2 synthesis and increasing pO2 stimulates obliteration. It can be kept patent with exogenous PGE2 and obliterated with NSAIDs.
